Our Story Begins
During the 1980’s, renowned stylist Gene Cardamone was finding it increasingly difficult to staff his four salons with highly skilled and creative stylists. Many students were graduating from local cosmetology and barbering schools, but few were prepared for the challenges associated with working in busy, upscale salon environments.
Gene’s passionate desire to improve the beauty profession inspired him to launch an innovate training program that helped new stylists acquire the skills and experience needed to excel at top salons. New stylists shadowed established Shear Ego Salon stylists for one year, and upon completion of their hands-on apprenticeship they were awarded the opportunity to become working professionals in one of Gene’s salons.
Our Vision Expands
The training program launched was a resounding success. In fact, our stylists became so recognized for their exceptional capabilities that both local and distant salons actively sought their services.
Gene Cardamone saw the need for a new generation of stylists—stylists that could more easily make the transition from beauty or barbering school graduates to working professionals. Gene founded Shear Ego International School of Hair Design with the vision of providing students with a higher standard of learning that best prepared them for career opportunities after graduation.
Forty years later, our tradition of learning excellence continues. Our facility is modern, our instructors are in tune with today’s styles, and our educational programs are designed to not only meet— but exceed New York State Board licensing requirements.
